Paul graduated from East Liverpool High School in June of 1950. He enlisted in the United States Navy October 9, 1950, and Honorably Discharged September 1, 1953. He attended Youngstown State, Geneva College, and graduated from Franciscan University in Steubenville. Paul began teaching in the Beaver Local Middle School in January 1961 and coaching as an Assistant Football Coach in 1965, and coached several years at different times, last coaching football 1991-92 at Beaver Local, then coaching football at Oak Glen in 1992 and 1993, and coached Wrestling at Beaver Local in 1965. While Coaching Wrestling, Beaver Local won their first Northeast Sectional Wrestling Tournament and several Invitational Wrestling Tournaments. Paul began the Beaver Local Invitational High School Wrestling Tournament, which later became the Everett Hoppel Memorial Tournament. He began the Beaver Local Open Wrestling Tournament and started the Beaver Junior High Wrestling program as an Intramural program. Paul served as Tournament Director for the Everett Hoppel Memorial several times, Tournament Director for The OAC Wrestling Tournament at Mount Union College, and Muskingdom College several times. Paul served as fund raising chairman for the Beaver Local Sports Complex Building. He coached Baseball at several levels at the Baseball Complex, and served as the President of the T-Ball League, and President of the Pony League several years.

Paul and his wife, Ginny, live in Calcutta, Ohio.
