Rex is the only Beaver Local Athlete ever drafted and offered a professional sports contract during his senior year. Rex was an athlete that excelled in all sports. During high school, he played football, basketball and baseball. In football, he was named All County and Buckeye Border Conference, despite playing only four games, his senior year, due to two shoulder separations. He was the leading scorer on the basketball team his senior year, averaging over 18 points per game. This 16-2 record basketball team had all five starters averaging over 10 points per game. Rex was named to the All Buckeye Border Conference Team. Although a well-rounded athlete, his true athleticism was on the baseball field. Once again, Rex was named All Buckeye Border Conference. His senior year, he was the Most Valuable Player and he led his team in home runs, RBIs, doubles and triples. Rex was drafted in the 13th round in the major baseball league draft by the Detroit Tigers. Rex had numerous college offers for scholarships in football, basketball and baseball.
