In 1968, he was presented the Harry Greenwood Memorial Award as Beaver Local's outstanding student athlete. He was a three-year letterman in football and baseball, and a two-year letter winner in basketball. As a three-year starting quarterback for the Fighting Beavers, he set school passing records. His awards include All State Honorable Mention, All County First Team, All Buckeye Border Conference First Team and Most Valuable Player his senior year. Dennis received a football scholarship to Youngstown State and set new passing records as he played. He is a member of the Youngstown State Football Hall of Fame.
