Rusty earned varsity letters in both track and football during his junior and senior years in high school. He served as captain of both the football team and track team as a senior. Rusty distinguished himself on the football team by setting an individual season interception record (7) in 1971. He was selected to the All-Columbiana County football team as a defensive back in 1971 and 1972. Rusty has continued his involvement in Beaver Local Athletics by serving as the 7th and 8th grade soccer coach.
