Year: 1974-75

John played four years of football in high school. He earned “Varsity B” letters in 1972, 1973 and 1974. John played on the first undefeated football team in Beaver Local history in 1973 (10-0 with a tough season schedule). John broke the school interception record in 1973 with 10 interceptions including three interceptions against East Palestine. He was honored a 1st Team All County, and All Area 1973 and 1974. He was Team Captain in 1974. John unselfishly gave up his position at safety his senior year when he as asked to be the quarterback.

In basketball, John played four years, earning three “Varsity B” letters. He was named to the All County and All Area Teams in junior and senior years. In 1974/75, John made 12 out of 14 field goal attempts in one game – a school record 85%. He was given the “Mr. Hustle” Award in 1973/74. John averaged 14.2 to 16.2 points per game during his basketball career.

John also played baseball his freshman and sophomore years.
