Year: 1977-78

Jill was a four-year letter winner at Beaver Local in track. She advanced to the District Track meet three times and was the first female athlete from Beaver Local to advance to District competition. She held the long jump record of 16’4” from 1978 to 2001. Jill received the “High Point Award” all four years in high school and was voted “Most Valuable Player” for three years.

In basketball, Jill was voted to the All Area and All County Teams her senior year. She averaged 12 points and 14 rebounds that year. The 1978 team was the first girls basketball team to win the Sectional title and ended with a record of 16-3.

At Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Jill was a four-year varsity player and was named to the NAIA District 22 All Star Team her junior and senior years. She was honored as the Team Chaplin and the Most Valuable player her junior and senior years. Jill was one of the first female athletes from Beaver Local to participate in four years of collegiate athletics.

Jill has worked as the assistant girls basketball coach at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, coached the Mount Vernon Middle School girls basketball team, and has been the assistant track coach, soccer and tennis coach at Beaver Local.

Jill is married to Dr. Robert Sylvies and has two children, Breanne Gunter, a student at Duquesne University, and Brady Gunter, a student at Beaver Local.

Jill holds a Bachelor of Art Degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and a Masters of Education Degree from Miami University.

She has taught at Trotwood Madison School District near Dayton, and presently at Beaver Local High School
