Bobbie Jo Bowersock was a volleyball and basketball player during all four years in high school, and a member of the track team during her freshman and sophomore years. She was named to both the Salem News and East Liverpool Review all-area volleyball teams as a junior and was chosen as the Review’s player of the year as a senior. As a basketball junior, Bobbie Jo was an honorable mention selection to the Division II Northeast Inland District Team as the county’s leading scorer that season and was selected to participate in the Columbiana County All-Star Game. Bobbie Jo was honored with the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, the Herald Star Athlete of the Year, the Dike Beede Scholarship, and was selected as an outstanding senior.
